My name is Dave Buchanan. I have an extensive background in photography, film and video documentaries and computer programming.

In 1987-97 I was living in Westwood, California near UCLA and later moved to Hollywood California. For the first 4 years I was working in Beverly Hills in the magazine publishing industry and attending the Film Industry Workshops in Studio City, California. In 1992 public access to the Internet was mandated by the Clinton Administration. I immediately realized the vast opportunity the internet could give to the world, even during the early years when there was no security and no safe way to collect payments. It wasn’t until 1995 that PayPal.com revolutionized the ability to make safe and secure payments online with eBay.com and eventually your personal website. And, it wasn’t until 1999 that YouTube.com revolutionized how we commuicate ideas with online video.

My first website in 1992 was the DigitalMusicZone.com. I created a website that featured records by music artists in multiple categories between 1950’s and the 1980’s. The only thing I could do at the time was to provide a 10 second sample of each song on an album then provide a 1-800 number for people to use their credit card and order the record album or CD. Then one of my partners would pickup the album in a downtown Los Angeles warehouse and mail it to the customer.

Business was growing, especially for the Jazz category, until my partners decided to contact the executives at Capital Records and Warner Music Group to get direct access to their music libraries. When the executives learned we were making money on the internet, they decided they didn’t need to give access to their music library to the DigitalMusicZone.com – but they decided to create their own website. In the process of denial of music access, they banned us from selling any of their music library on the internet.
